ASTM A312/A312M-19 covers seamless, welded and heavily cold-worked austenitic stainless steel pipe for corrosive and high-temperature service: TP304/304L/304H, TP316/316L/316H, TP321/347, Schedule 5S–80S — the principal stainless pipe spec (ASME SA312).
Mechanical & Performance Requirements
TP304: TS 515 MPa / YS 205 MPa; TP316: TS 515 MPa / YS 205 MPa; L-grades YS 170 MPa. Solution annealed (1040 °C min for 304); welded pipe weld annealed or as-welded by class; elongation min 35%/25% by specimen type.
Dimensional Tolerances
OD per B36.19/B36.10 schedule tables (±1% for NPS 2+); wall per S-schedule: −10% average-wall typical; straightness 1:600; length tolerances per A999.
NDE & Hydrostatic Testing
100% hydrostatic test or NDE (eddy-current/ultrasonic for welded seam + body) at manufacturer’s or purchaser’s option; weld-seam RT or ultrasonic for welded pipe per class; intergranular-corrosion practice tests on H and L grades by agreement.
