Coating Solutions Overview

Steel pipe coatings are applied to the external and/or internal surface of a pipe to protect against corrosion caused by soil, water, chemicals, or the transported medium. The coating system is selected based on operating temperature, soil conditions, and project specification.

Three-layer polyethylene (3PE) is the most common external coating for buried oil and gas pipelines, offering superior mechanical protection and long service life. FBE is preferred for high-temperature applications. Galvanized coatings are used for structural and water supply pipes.

Frequently Asked Questions

What coating systems do you offer on steel pipe?

FBE (single/dual), 3PE, 3PP, liquid epoxy, cement mortar lining, galvanizing, and concrete weight coating — applied in-house with single-source quality control.

Which coating should I choose for my pipeline?

3PE for buried onshore pipelines up to 80°C; 3PP for 80–110°C and offshore/abrasive service; FBE for thin-film needs (HDD, reeling) and water lines; dual-FBE for rocky backfill. Our comparison section details the trade-offs.

What standards do your coatings comply with?

ISO 21809-1/-2, DIN 30670/30678, CSA Z245.20/-21, AWWA C213, NACE RP0394, and SY/T equivalents, with full QC documentation.

What is the expected service life of coated pipe?

Properly applied and handled, modern coating systems provide 30–50+ years of protection in buried and submerged service.

How is coating quality tested on each pipe?

100% holiday (spark) detection, thickness measurement at multiple points, visual inspection on every joint; peel strength, cathodic disbondment, impact and bend tests per lot.

What pipe sizes can you coat?

Typically 33.4 mm to 1820 mm (1"–72") diameter, applying to seamless, ERW, LSAW, and SSAW pipes in any grade.

Can you coat customer-supplied pipe?

Yes — toll coating services are available subject to incoming pipe inspection (surface condition, ovality, chemistry certificates).

What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?

MOQ typically 50 tons per size; lead time depends on diameter and coating system — usually 3–8 weeks. Contact us for a firm quotation.

How should coated pipe be handled during transport and installation?

Use soft slings and padded supports, keep end caps fitted, avoid dragging; repair holidays with compatible two-part liquid epoxy patch kits before backfilling.

What documentation do you provide?

Coating QC reports per joint (thickness, holiday, visual), peel/CD/impact batch results, and coating material certificates; third-party inspection on request.
