NACE MR0175 / ISO 15156 — Materials for Sour Service

NACE MR0175 (ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO 15156:2009) governs materials for oil & gas production in H2S-containing environments: SSC/HIC-resistant carbon and low-alloy steels, stainless, nickel alloys — the de-facto sour-service gate for OCTG and line pipe..

Scope

NACE MR0175 (ANSI/NACE MR0175/ISO 15156:2009) governs materials for oil & gas production in H2S-containing environments: SSC/HIC-resistant carbon and low-alloy steels, stainless, nickel alloys — the de-facto sour-service gate for OCTG and line pipe.

Mechanical & Performance Requirements

Carbon/low-alloy steels: 22 HRC max hardness for SSC resistance; HIC control via sulfur limits (≤0.003% flat-rolled / 0.01% seamless) and clean-steel practice; API 5L Annex H sour options tie ≤250 HV10 to PSL2 X52–X65 NS/QS grades.

Dimensional Tolerances

Near-surface hardness-band verification (1.5 mm indent rows); carbon-equivalent limits for field weldability in sour systems.

NDE & Hydrostatic Testing

SSC per NACE TM0177 Method A; HIC per NACE TM0284 with CLR/CSR/CTR acceptance; wall-hardness UT-verified traverse for heavy-wall sour pipe.
