Socket-Weld & Threaded Forged Fittings

Below NPS 4, welding a full-penetration butt joint on small-bore pipe is slow and hard to inspect — so the industry uses forged socket-weld and threaded fittings instead. CREATEEL supplies the complete ASME B16.11 family: 90° and 45° elbows, tees, crosses, couplings, half couplings, caps, unions, bushings, plugs and bar-stock nipples in 2000/3000/6000 (SW) and 2000/3000/6000 (THD) pressure classes.

Fittings are die-forged, heat treated and fully machined in-house, with NPT threads cut or rolled per ASME B1.20.1. Galvanized finish and special grades (low-temp, stainless, duplex) are available for process, instrument and utility piping.

Every CREATEEL fitting is shipped with full heat-number traceability from raw material certificate to the stamped marking on the piece itself. Dimensional reports, heat treatment charts and EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates are issued as standard, with 3.2 certification by third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TÜV) available on request before shipment.

Materials & Standards

A105 carbon steel as standard, A350 LF2/LF3 for low temperature, A182 F304L/F316L stainless and F51/F53 duplex for corrosive service. Threads cut to ASME B1.20.1 (NPT).

Standards in brief: ASME B16.11 for dimensions, ratings and testing; threads per ASME B1.20.1; EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certification available.

Manufacturing Process

Closed-die forging and full machining of ASME B16.11 forged fittings — from certified bar to gauged, marked and galvanized pieces.

1

Bar Stock & Cutting

Certified A105/A182 bar saw-cut to billet; chemistry and hardness verified per heat.

2

Hot Closed-Die Forging

Billets forged 1100–1200°C in closed dies for dense, crack-free shapes with good grain flow.

3

Normalizing / Annealing

Heat treatment per grade; mechanical test coupons forged with each lot.

4

CNC Machining

Hex flats, sockets and contours machined to B16.11 dimensions in one setup for concentricity.

5

Threading / Socket Cutting

NPT threads cut or rolled and gauged 100%; SW sockets machined and checked.

6

Surface Finishing

Shot blasted; hot-dip galvanized where specified; anti-rust oil for bare carbon steel.

7

Inspection

Dimensional sampling per AQL, thread gauge records, hardness test, visual per MSS SP-55.

8

Marking & Packing

Class, size and material stamped; boxed and cartoned with barcode labels.

Frequently Asked Questions

What are forged pipe fittings?
Small-bore fittings machined from forged billet — elbows, tees, couplings, unions, caps, crosses and hex nipples — in socket-weld and threaded types per ASME B16.11, typically NPS 1/8″–4″.
Threaded or socket weld — which should I use?
Threaded for easy assembly and low-criticality lines; socket weld where higher pressure, vibration or leak-tightness matters — there is no thread path to weep.
What do the pressure classes mean?
Class 2000/3000/6000 for threaded and 3000/6000/9000 for socket weld. The class couples to pipe schedule: 3000 ≈ Sch 80, 6000 ≈ Sch 160, 9000 ≈ XXS wall.
What thread standard do you use?
NPT per ASME B1.20.1 as standard; BSPT/BS 21 and other threads on request.
What sizes and materials do you cover?
NPS 1/8″–4″; ASTM A105, A350 LF2, A182 F304/304L/F316/316L, F51/F55 duplex — all heat-number traceable.
How do you control quality?
Tensile and hardness testing per heat, thread gauging (NPT go/no-go), dimensional check, PMI for stainless; EN 10204 3.1 MTC.
What surface finishes are available?
Natural (as-machined), black phosphated, anti-rust oil, or hot-dip galvanized for corrosive environments.
What is your MOQ and lead time?
Very flexible — carton-lot quantities welcome. Stock items ship in 5–10 days; production 15–30 days.
How are forged fittings packed?
Small pieces are sealed in poly bags, then cartoned on pallets with size and grade labels — ready for retail or project distribution.
What marking and documentation come with the goods?
Grade and size marked on the fitting body where space allows; MTC 3.1, packing list, and third-party inspection on request.
