ISO 1461 Hot-Dip Galvanized Coatings on Iron & Steel Articles

ISO 1461:1999 (DIN EN ISO 1461) specifies hot-dip galvanized coatings applied after fabrication: minimum local and mean coating thickness by section thickness class, finish requirements and test methods..

Scope

ISO 1461:1999 (DIN EN ISO 1461) specifies hot-dip galvanized coatings applied after fabrication: minimum local and mean coating thickness by section thickness class, finish requirements and test methods.

Mechanical & Performance Requirements

Coating thickness minimums: steel ≥6 mm thick: local 70 µm / mean 85 µm; 3–6 mm: 55/70 µm; <3 mm: 45/55 µm; castings: 70/80 µm class; adhesion inherent to metallurgical bond.

Dimensional Tolerances

Thickness minima by class table; coating mass (g/m²) conversion via ISO 1460; repair-paint thickness for damaged areas.

NDE & Hydrostatic Testing

Magnetic thickness measurement per ISO 2178 (reference areas per part size); Preece/weighing methods for verification; visual finish (no blisters, bare spots).
