Olets & Branch Connections

An olet is a small, integrally reinforced forged fitting welded onto the run pipe to make a branch connection without a full reducing tee. Its saddle-shaped base follows the run pipe contour and its body provides the reinforcement a code branch weld otherwise needs — the economical answer for drains, vents, instrument taps and small branches on thick-wall headers.

CREATEEL supplies the full family: weldolet (BW), sockolet (SW), threadolet (THD), elbolet (45°), nipolet and latrolet, from 1/8" branch on 1/8"–48" runs, in pressure classes 3000/6000/9000 and STD/XS/SCH160 ratings per MSS SP-97.

Every CREATEEL fitting is shipped with full heat-number traceability from raw material certificate to the stamped marking on the piece itself. Dimensional reports, heat treatment charts and EN 10204 3.1 inspection certificates are issued as standard, with 3.2 certification by third-party inspection (SGS, BV, TÜV) available on request before shipment.

Materials & Standards

A105 and A350 LF2 carbon and low-temperature steel, A182 F304L/F316L stainless and F51/F53 duplex; body matches the run-pipe material for weld compatibility.

Standards in brief: dimensions per MSS SP-97, ratings per ASME B16.11; run-to-branch combinations follow the manufacturer’s layout tables; EN 10204 3.1 / 3.2 certification available.

Manufacturing Process

Die forging and precision machining of MSS SP-97 branch outlets — saddle-machined base, integral reinforcement, code bevels.

1

Bar & Billet Selection

Certified A105 / LF2 / stainless bar cut to billet weight per forging calculation.

2

Hot Die Forging

Billets forged at 1100–1200°C in closed dies to the olet rough shape with sound grain flow.

3

Normalizing / Quench & Temper

Heat treatment per grade and class; test coupons treated with the lot.

4

Saddle Machining

Base saddle CNC-machined to the run pipe contour for each specified run size.

5

Outlet Machining

Bevel (BW), socket (SW) or thread (NPT) machined per B16.25 / B16.11 / B1.20.1.

6

Mechanical Testing

Tensile, impact and hardness on lot coupons per A105/A350 requirements.

7

NDT & Dimensional

MT on critical areas, dimensional check of height A, base B and outlet C/D.

8

Marking & Packing

SP-97 mark, grade, heat number, run×branch stamped; threaded ends protected.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is an olet (branch outlet fitting)?
An olet is a small, self-reinforcing branch connection welded onto a run pipe — it adds a branch without installing a full tee. Types include Weldolet, Sockolet, Threadolet, Elbolet, Latrolet and Nipolet.
Why use an olet instead of a tee?
For small branches it is cheaper, needs only one weld on the run, keeps the run pipe largely intact, and its integrated reinforcement replaces a reinforcement pad.
Which olet type should I choose?
Weldolet for buttweld branch pipe; Sockolet or Threadolet for small valves and instruments; Elbolet for a branch from an elbow; Latrolet for a 45° branch.
What sizes and pressure classes do you cover?
Run 1/2″–48″, outlet 1/2″–24″ (up to 36″ on request). Sockolet and Threadolet in Class 3000/6000/9000; Weldolet in Std, XS and Sch 160.
How do I order the correct olet?
State run size × outlet size, run pipe schedule, type and class — e.g. 6″ × 2″ Std Weldolet, A105, run Sch 80.
What materials are available?
ASTM A105, A350 LF2, A182 F304/304L/F316/316L, A234 WPB and duplex — all traceable to heat number.
Is the reinforcement enough for code piping?
Yes — the olet body provides the required reinforcement area per MSS SP-97 and ASME B31.1/B31.3, so no additional pad is needed.
What tests and certificates do you provide?
Hardness testing, PMI on stainless, dimensional check, with an EN 10204 3.1 MTC; forgings are tested at the forging stage.
What surface treatment is available?
Anti-rust oil or black paint as standard; hot-dip galvanizing and FBE available for buried or corrosive service.
What is your MOQ and lead time?
Flexible MOQ — even single pieces for repairs. Common run/outlet combinations are in stock (5–10 days); forging production 20–35 days.
