What is ERW Pipe?

Electric Resistance Welding (ERW) is a process that joins metal surfaces by applying heat generated from electrical resistance. Steel strip is uncoiled, leveled, and passed through a series of forming rolls that gradually shape it into a cylindrical tube. The edges are then heated by high-frequency induction current and forge-welded together under pressure.

Our state-of-the-art ERW production lines are capable of producing round, square, and rectangular hollow sections ranging from 1/2″ to 24″ OD, serving over 40 countries worldwide.

Manufacturing Process

1
Raw Material Inspection

Raw Material Inspection

Inspect steel coil composition, mechanical properties, surface and dimensions to meet production standards.

2
Uncoiling

Uncoiling

Unfold steel coils and continuously feed flat steel strip into the production line.

3
Strip End Cutting & Butt Welding

Strip End Cutting & Butt Welding

Trim strip ends and weld strips together to ensure continuous production.

4
Strip Leveling

Strip Leveling

Level the steel strip to eliminate deformation and internal stress for smooth forming.

5
Edge Trimming

Edge Trimming

Trim strip edges to ensure uniform width and neat edges for stable welding.

6
Strip Forming

Strip Forming

Gradually bend flat steel strip into tubular blank through forming rollers.

7
High Frequency Induction Welding

High Frequency Induction Welding

Heat strip edges by high-frequency current and squeeze to form tight weld seams.

8
Weld Bead Removal (Internal & External Scarfing)

Weld Bead Removal (Internal & External Scarfing)

Remove excess inner and outer weld beads to obtain smooth pipe surface.

9
Online Heat Treatment

Online Heat Treatment

Treat welds and pipe body to eliminate welding stress and improve mechanical performance.

10
Online Cooling

Online Cooling

Cool high-temperature welded pipes rapidly to stabilize metal structure.

11
Sizing & Straightening

Sizing & Straightening

Calibrate pipe diameter and straighten pipes to eliminate ovality and bending.

12
Flying Saw Cutting to Fixed Length

Flying Saw Cutting to Fixed Length

Cut continuous pipes into specified fixed lengths via flying saw.

13
Pipe End Deburring

Pipe End Deburring

Remove sharp burrs from pipe ends to avoid usage and assembly defects.

14
Hydraulic Pressure Test

Hydraulic Pressure Test

Perform water pressure test to check pipe and weld tightness and pressure resistance.

15
Ultrasonic / Eddy Current Nondestructive Testing

Ultrasonic / Eddy Current Nondestructive Testing

Detect internal and welding defects of pipes without damage.

16
Surface Inspection

Surface Inspection

Visually check pipe surface for scratches, pits and other appearance defects.

17
Pipe End Facing & Chamfering

Pipe End Facing & Chamfering

Machine and chamfer pipe ends for convenient on-site welding installation.

18
Marking

Marking

Print specifications, batch and production information on pipe surface.

19
Anti-rust Treatment (Optional)

Anti-rust Treatment (Optional)

Apply anti-rust oil or coating to prevent pipe oxidation and corrosion.

20
Packaging & Stacking

Packaging & Stacking

Bundle qualified pipes and stack them neatly for storage and transportation.

21
