Cylinder Pipe
Precision seamless steel tubes for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder applications. Manufactured with strict ID tolerance and superior surface finish for optimal sealing performance.
Cylinder pipes (honed tubes) are precision seamless steel tubes specifically designed for hydraulic and pneumatic cylinder barrels. They feature strict internal diameter tolerance, smooth surface finish, and excellent straightness to ensure optimal piston seal performance.
Our cylinder pipes undergo honing or skiving & burnishing processes to achieve mirror-like internal surfaces. Available in carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel grades, they are widely used in construction machinery, industrial equipment, and automotive applications.

Manufacturing Process
Our seamless steel pipes are manufactured through a rigorously controlled 12-step hot rolling process — from billet heating to final inspection — ensuring uniform mechanical properties, precise dimensions, and defect-free surfaces.
Billet Inspection & Cutting
Continuous-cast round billets are ultrasonically tested for internal defects, then cut to required lengths by abrasive sawing or shearing.
Rotary Hearth Heating
Billets are heated uniformly to 1200–1280°C in a rotary hearth furnace to achieve optimal plasticity for piercing while preventing overheating or decarburization.
Mannesmann Piercing
The heated billet is pierced over a pointed mandrel between two skewed rolls to form a hollow shell (mother tube), typically achieving a 3–4:1 elongation ratio.
Mandrel Mill Rolling
The hollow shell is rolled over a retained mandrel through a 5–8 stand continuous mandrel mill to reduce wall thickness and achieve uniform OD/WT dimensions.
Mandrel Extraction & Reheating
The mandrel is stripped from the shell; the shell is then reheated to ~950°C in an induction furnace before entering the stretch-reducing mill.
Stretch Reducing / Sizing
The pipe passes through 20–24 stands of stretch-reducing mill to achieve the final OD with tight tolerance (±0.5% OD) and uniform wall thickness, without an internal mandrel.
Cooling Bed Cooling
Pipes are transferred to a walking-beam cooling bed for slow, uniform air cooling to prevent bending and residual stress buildup.
Hot/Cold Straightening
Pipes are straightened by multi-roll cross-roll straighteners (6-roll or 10-roll) to achieve straightness ≤1 mm/m and eliminate ovality.
Cutting & End Facing
Pipes are cut to commercial lengths (5.8m/6m/11.8m/random) and both ends are faced and beveled (30°+5°) for welding, with burrs removed.
NDT & Hydrostatic Testing
100% ultrasonic testing for wall thickness and laminations, eddy current testing for surface cracks, and hydrostatic pressure testing to API/GB standards.
Surface Inspection & Marking
Visual and dimensional inspection of OD, WT, length, and surface quality; stenciling grade, heat number, OD×WT, standard, and manufacturer mark.
Final Packaging & Shipping
Pipes are bundled with steel strips, end-protected with plastic caps or bevel protectors, slung with lifting tags, and loaded for shipment with mill test certificates.

Frequently Asked Questions
What is cylinder pipe (honed tube)?+
Precision tube with a honed or skived-and-rolled internal bore — ID tolerance H8/H9 and surface finish Ra ≤ 0.4 μm — ready to accept seals in hydraulic cylinder assembly.
What diameter and length ranges are available?+
Bore 40–500 mm, wall 4–50 mm, lengths to 12 m; honed across the full length with matched straightness.
What grades are available?+
E235 (ST37), E355 (ST52), 27MnB5, 42CrMo4, and STKM equivalents — with heat treatment options for high-pressure use.
Honed vs skived-and-rolled — which finish should I choose?+
Skiving/roll finishing removes more stock faster on thicker-walled tube; honing achieves the finest finish and roundness. Both deliver seal-ready bores; selection depends on stock allowance.
What is the minimum order quantity and lead time?+
Stock sizes from single lengths; produced honed tube typically 3–6 weeks. Contact us with bore, OD, and length for a firm quotation.
Can you supply cut-to-length with end machining?+
Yes — cutting, chamfering, port machining, and welding bevels, delivered assembly-ready.
How is bore quality verified?+
ID tolerance verification at multiple stations, surface roughness measurement (Ra), straightness, and roundness reports per length.
What burst/pressure margins do your grades provide?+
Typical designs use 4:1 burst-to-working-pressure margins; we verify with wall calculation per your system pressure.
What documentation comes with my order?+
EN 10204 3.1 MTCs, dimensional and roughness reports, and heat traceability; third-party inspection on request.
Can you supply complete cylinder components?+
Yes — piston rods (chrome-plated), gland components, and machined cylinder parts as a package with the tube.
